About the Reader
I love to read but struggle with finding the time to do so. I usually read at night right before I fall asleep but sometimes it is hard because I am too tired or too distracted by something else on my mind. If i don’t enjoy the book, I find it hard to stay focused and want to read the book - I end up having to force myself to read it and hardly retain any of the information.
Some of my least favorite books are The Odyssey by Homer, Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson, and others. My least favorite genre tends to be science fiction, which is part of the reason why I am surprised that I enjoyed reading the Harry Potter Series. I find science fiction to be too far fetched for me to relate to and too creepy and weird.
I don’t really know what I want to read next because I don’t know of any books that I think I will enjoy. I am considering trying the Percy Jackson Series because I have never given them a chance and even though I generally don’t like reading science fiction because they seem kind of like Harry Potter in a way.
I usually read on my bed when my family is around because it is quiet and I am free from all distractions (plus the fact that I usually read right before I go to sleep) but my favorite place to read is on our couch in front of our wood stove because it is so cozy and warm.
I started reading because I wanted to expand my horizons, learn about the world, and learn about the life stories of other people. I love escaping the world I live in and putting myself into a whole new world built up between the story and my imagination. When I find a good book, I can sit there and read for hours upon hours, forgetting the words and the fact that the pages are turning, just living in my own little world with all of the other characters.
Some of the first books I read were by Dr. Seuss, then I moved onto the Magic Tree House, Pony Pals, and Fairy Tales. All of these books made me feel like I was going with them off on this adventure - my dream place. Whether going on a trail ride with my dream Quarter Horse and Pam, Lulu and Anna or spinning quickly in the magic tree house with Jack and Annie on our way to England, I loved being in the middle of all of the adventure.
Reading takes me away to a place that I love to be and wish I could be more often. Reading lets me be myself and explore places I know I never otherwise would get a chance to go and see.
